Your data,
plainly explained.

The short version

• We need an email address and a password to create your account. Your email is never shown publicly.
• Your profile and your published good deeds are public. Drafts and removed posts are private to you and our moderators.
• We never ask for precise location. Share a general area only.
• We don't sell personal data and we don't run advertising trackers.
• You can delete your account, and what you posted, at any time from Settings.

What we collect

Information you give us

• Account: email address and password (stored only as a secure hash by our authentication provider), or your Google account identifier if Google sign-in is offered and you choose it.
• Profile: username, display name, and optionally a photo, short bio and country.
• Content: good deeds (title, story, cause, date, optional general area and country), photos and video, comments and reactions.
• Reports and appeals: what you tell us when you report content or contact support.

Information created when you use the site

• Sign-in session cookies, which are strictly necessary to keep you logged in.
• Standard technical logs kept by our hosting providers (such as IP address and request time) for security and reliability.
• Moderation and administrative records: decisions about content and accounts, who made them, and when.

How we use it

• To run your account and show your profile and published posts.
• To review submissions, act on reports, prevent spam and abuse, and enforce the community guidelines.
• To send you in-app notifications and essential account emails (confirmation, password reset).
• To run monthly awards and contact winners about prizes.
• To publish aggregate, non-identifying statistics on the impact dashboard.

Who can see what

• Public: username, display name, profile photo, bio, country, join month, published good deeds and their media, visible comments, and published award results.
• Only you: your email address, drafts, removed posts, notifications, and reports you filed.
• Moderators and administrators: submissions awaiting review, reports, and moderation history, only as needed for their role. Award judges see entries and their own scores.
• Individual judges' scores are not published; only the combined score of winning entries is.

Photos and video

Files you upload are stored privately and become publicly viewable only when the good deed is published. Before uploading, consider removing location data embedded in your photos, and make sure anyone recognisable has agreed to appear. If you appear in someone else's post without consent, report it or contact us.

Service providers

We rely on a small number of providers to operate the service. They process data on our behalf:

• Supabase — database, authentication and file storage.
• Vercel — website hosting and delivery.
• Google — only if Google sign-in is offered and you choose to use it.

Your data may be stored or processed in countries other than your own, depending on where these providers operate.

Retention and deletion

• We keep your account and content for as long as your account exists.
• When you delete your account, your profile, good deeds, media, comments and reactions are permanently deleted.
• Records of moderation decisions and administrative actions are kept for accountability, with the link to your identity removed.
• Backups and provider logs expire on the providers' normal schedules.

Your choices

• Edit your profile and remove your photo in Settings.
• Delete any of your good deeds or comments.
• Delete your account in Settings.
• Ask us for a copy of your data, or for a correction, through the support address.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local data-protection law. We will honour valid requests.

Children

NatureMatter is not intended for children under 13. Younger people who want to take part should do so through a parent, guardian or teacher's account. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes and contact

If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will update the date above and notify members in the app. Questions about privacy can be sent to the support address.
